Jacques Dioque, the Director and the ambassador of Bouchard Aîné & Fils, one of the biggest wine trading houses in Burgundy for more than two centuries, came to India for the first time.
He did not come empty-handed ? he brought with him a varied selection of fine wines, which are now on sale on this market. Five reds and three whites.
Already present in 60 countries, Bouchard Aîné & Fils has concluded a partnership for the distribution of its wines in India with United Breweries, which has brought in a number of initiatives to promote a genuine wine culture in a country where consumption habits are changing and are increasingly based on Western models.
As Jacques Dioque points out, unlike China where the wine culture is reserved for the elite or for connoisseurs, in India it has reached the middle classes quite easily. According to this ambassador for Bouchard Aîné & Fils, the phenomenon should gather pace over the next ten years.
The selection presented by Bouchard Aîné & Fils complements the offering already in place, with fruitier, lighter wines than the Bordeaux, for example.
Barely six months ago, the Burgundy firm was shipping around 12,000 bottles to India, a figure which should double in 2009! |
