Origins
The elders of the Village de Chardonnay, not far from Tournus, will tell you that their village gave its name to the famous Burgundy grape variety. The only certainty is that Chardonnay comes from the Latin "Cardus" meaning thistle, a prickly annual plant that is particularly fond of limestone soils. Chardonnay is the limestone village par excellence. A magnificent wine, with an explosive, mouth-watering bouquet, guided by the natural tension of the terroir.
The Jurassic-age soils are brown calcareous, marly and clayey-siliceous. In the Chardonnay area, the vines face due south, while in the other communes, the slopes face east and west.
Vinification and maturing
Vintage : 2025
Across the entire vineyard, harvesting began up to two weeks earlier than in 2024 and extended over a longer-than-usual period to adapt to weather conditions, which turned rainy at the outset of the harvest. All grapes were brought in on time: sanitary conditions were very good, and the fruit shows an aromatic concentration that suggests elegant, refined wines. While volumes appear stable compared to 2024, they nevertheless remain below the five-year average.
At the time of the first run-offs in mid-September, red wines were showing gentle extraction with fine colour. White wines, meanwhile, quickly revealed themselves to be rich, flavoursome and concentrated, while retaining fine freshness thanks to cool nights that preserved acidity.
In summary, 2025 is shaping up to be a vintage of character and quality, for both red and white Burgundy wines.
