Varietal

100% Chardonnay.

Tasting notes

A smooth, rich and generous mouth, with flavours of dried fruits, citrus. A wine which offers a lot of elegance and all the minerality of the terroir.

Food and wine pairing

This great Burgundy white wine is the perfect accompaniment to fine fish in sauce or swimming, shellfish, smoked salmon or snail puff pastry. On the cheese side, it goes perfectly with fresh cow's milk or a nice piece of Comté cheese.

Serving suggestions

Ideally served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C / 53°F.

Ageing potential

10 years

Origins

A village appellation in the Côte de Beaune, harvested in the delimited parts of the village of Meursault. The appellation covers around 447 hectares and produces 95% white wines, which are among the best in Burgundy.

Along with Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, the village forms what is known as "The Golden Triangle", reputed to produce the finest white wines in existence. Here, Chardonnay finds a perfect terroir, gently sloping and ideally exposed to the east or south, composed of limestone and marl.

Around 30% of the appellation's surface area is classified as 1er Cru, made up of 19 different climats.

Vinification and maturing

Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place over several weeks, with daily stirring to free the aromas. The wines then mature in the same casks for 15 to 18 months, 20% of the casks being new oak.

Vintage : 2013

Defying all weather forecasts, capricious Mother Nature never let up. After a long winter, a gloomy spring and a fine providential summer, for the most part, the pickers had to wait until the start of October to take up their secateurs. The consequences of the weather’s whims – such as shatter and millerandage, hail damage, concentration and disease – all had an impact on the quantities harvested. Across the region, no winegrowing area was spared. Some had very low yields with volumes equal or even less than those recorded in 2012. Fortunately, the first tastings suggest that 2013 is a very successful vintage. Once again, experience has made all the difference.
