Mâconnais

Mâconnais

This is the southernmost and the largest of Burgundy’s wine-growing areas, covering 6,300 hectares.

From the town of Mâcon to the gateway to Beaujolais, a few dozen kilometres north of Lyon, the Chardonnay grape finds here a terroir of predilection for beautiful white wines that are fresh and fruity, with subtle and charming aromas. The best-known appellations are the Village appellations Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé, and the Regional appellation Mâcon-Villages.

For the reds, the Gamay grape gives Mâcon wines their beautiful vivid red colour tinged with violet, their freshness, and their aromas of small red berries, reminiscent of the nearby Beaujolais wines...
